Week 3 of March to your own beat and Laney promised the questions would be hard because they involve ‘what you are good at’. Well Laney … you were right! Here we go:
15. If I was an animal I’d be a …
Bird. I like the idea of having the freedom to fly and also the ability to have a bird’s eye view of the world. The world is beautiful from up high!
16. If I could have any role/job it would be …
Erm … just quietly I am working through this particular question in my head and in real life at the moment. I’ll let you know when I know
17. My hidden talent is …
Hmmm … you know what, I think I have a hidden talent for identifying the best person for a job – any job, big or small. I like to think that this was passed on to me by a dear friend who was taken too soon nearly six years ago now. HIS special talent was not just being able to identify the best person for a given job, but also to empower that person to do the job well. I am still working on that second bit.
18. The most creative thing I’ve ever done is …
This is a hard one because my job is a creative one. However, the most fulfilling thing I have ever done creatively is A Manifesto for Mums. I wrote it in my head over several months’ worth of runs. When I finally got it down on paper it was another week refining the words and THEN I had to decide on the design. It’s something that I am really proud of as it neatly combines both writing and designing, my two creative loves.
19. People come to me when they need help with …
Pretty much anything to do with a computer, the internet or websites!
20. The sorts of problems I like to solve are …
Related to people doing too much. I have made an art form out of ‘doing too much’ over the years and finally last year I put a stop to it! Now I love the idea of helping others do LESS!!
21. Someone else thinks I am good at …
Writing. People tell me they like the way I write and I cannot adequately convey how much this means to me each time I hear it. In my head I think “oh no, if you want to see writing you should check out this person, or this person.” And then I remember, just because these people are wonderful writers, that doesn’t mean I can’t be a ‘good’ writer myself
So as always, I’ve showed you mine now you show me yours! Let’s hear your answers to the above!

Kelly, I can’t believe I didn’t know about the Smile Collective and your manifestos! They’re great! I love learning new things about people and I’m looking forward more and more to meeting you
I can really identify with wanting to do less. I have to do less, even though I want to push on full steam ahead. I want to push my blog forward rather than just treading water, I want to start my consultancy, I want to launch my new review site now! But I can’t. I have two preschoolers at home who need me and there are days I feel that the fatigue and depression are just a whisper away. It’s a very fine balancing act and a difficult one when I am all about instant gratification! Every day I have to remind myself to be patient. Every day.
ps you are a wonderful writer

Ha ha yes see – now you know why I feel your pain with all the hats you want to wear … So little time, so many ideas. So much drive, so few hours in the day! But the important things will get done. I know it gets said a lot, but kids are only kids for so long
Oh and thank you (about being a good writer). That just means so much!

Laney, you took the words right out of my mouth. I am in exactly the same position – one at kindy, the other 2 years behind and my head so full of ideas that I cannot act on because these two need my attention seemingly ALL the time!! And I am also an instant gratification girl. I hate when I can see what I want to do and where I want to be but it just can’t happen NOW. And yes, fatigue and depression always just at the threshold, but so far I’ve managed to keep the latter at bay – I force myself to go to bed early sometimes, and some days I EVEN have a day off and go to lunch with a friend for actual adult conversation!!
A lovely friend keeps reminding me that I have to live in the present with the resources I have at my disposal in the present, and the future will come regardless…
Thank you – I don’t feel quite so alone in this predicament when I hear that other people feel it too.
How hard is it to live in the present! I find it really impossible!

#17 – ah, Curly! It’s amazing how often he pops into my head – and at the most random of moments. Thanks for the reminder
PS – I’m guessing you could do with a dose of Curly logic currently as you work through #16…but remember that a bit of that voice in your head telling you what you need to do is his. Just keep listening and you’ll work it out when you’re ready xx
You got it Mel. he is in my head all the time – whispering away.
And he is definitely whispering about #16 right now!

if i was an animal it would be a bird too – i have always loved that idea- just the travelling with ease, the view from above…

It’s really funny you know – I hate heights unless I feel 100% ‘safe’. But in a plane (where curiously I DO feel safe so long as we’re not taking off or landing) I LOVE the view from up on high!

Its so good to read what you are good at, and how you are as a person. It was so hard to answer the questions!!!
I so too want to be a bird – and fly away whenever I want especially from all the rain we are having.
I like your hidden talent and how people come to you to fix their computer/internet/websites. I am so not creative so it was good to read about how your job is all about being creative!!
Cheers
Lisa
